Shift Your Negative Mindset To Positive

You may not think so, but your thoughts have the power to alter the way you think about the world completely. Your thoughts are powerful. While positive thoughts can improve your mood and your outlook on life, negative thoughts can make you feel unhappy and miserable.

Have you ever taken the time to examine your negative thoughts and how they affect your daily life? Are your negative thoughts helping you, or are they hurting you? Are they serving you?

If they’re not serving you, then they need to change. It is possible to reframe your negative thoughts into positive ones. Here are five tips to help you erase those pesky negative thoughts.

Tips on Changing Negative Thoughts to Positive Ones

Be mindful.

The first step to changing your negative thoughts is identifying when you have them. You have to learn how to sort your negative thoughts from your positive thoughts. Developing mindfulness puts distance between you and your thoughts, allowing you to see them objectively and assess them.

Question your critic.

Your brain does a great job of convincing you of things that aren’t true. Repeated negative thoughts help your brain with this task. You will eventually start to believe anything you repeat enough.

This is why you must address your inner critic. One way to start addressing these thoughts is to picture the critic as someone besides yourself. Once you separate yourself from your critic, it is easier to tell that little voice to be quiet.

Identify your triggers.

Most people have something that triggers their negative thoughts. It could be looking in the mirror, trying on clothes, or even being assessed at work. Whatever your trigger is, you will know it because it inspires a slew of negative thoughts. It’s important to identify your triggers because once you know them, you can avoid falling into the self-deprecating trap.

Reframe your words.

When it comes to changing your thoughts, the best place to start is with the phrases you already say. Take some time to write out your most common negative thoughts and then turn them into more productive phrases.

However, there’s one catch. It’s not enough to write the opposite of your negative thoughts. For these new phrases to work, they must be things you believe, not things you scoff at when you say! This can be a tricky exercise, but it is a necessary part of reprogramming your mind away from being negative.

Recite affirmations.

In general, affirmations are a great way to get your mind focused on positive thoughts instead of negative thoughts. You can recite affirmations in the mornings and evenings, or any time you need to be pulled away from your thoughts and into the moment. Affirmations can range from single words to elaborate phrases, and they can apply to any facet of your life, including finances and relationships.

Remember, your negative thoughts don’t have to stay with you forever. It is 100% possible to get rid of your negative self-talk and turn it into something positive through mindfulness, awareness, and the use of affirmations.
