Do You Really Understand Men?
We all know everyone thinks women are the complicated ones and men are simpletons, but that’s not true. Men are just as complex as women are. Unfortunately, that fact gets forgotten because of our society and the media.
So, it’s time to myth-bust some things about guys.
Contrary to popular belief, men DON’T always want sex.
Let’s start with the biggest misconception. Everywhere in the media, you see the assumption that guys always want to get laid, but that really isn’t the case. Sure, men love having sex, but it doesn’t mean they always want it no matter what.
Men have to risk being rejected way more than women do.
If you’re not interested in a man who worked up the courage to come over and speak to you — just let him know you’re not interested and move on.
If a man is truly interested in you, he will make time.
Unless you’re being unreasonable, most men will adjust their schedule to be with you — if he truly is interested in you.
Men don’t take hints as well as you think.
Believe it or not, guys are not the best mind readers. If you want to say something just say it. Beating around the bush and talking in riddles is a lot of unnecessary work for someone you’re still trying to get to know.
If you tell a guy “nothing is wrong” then he will believe you. The whole guessing game of “I wonder if she really means what she says or if I should bang my head against a wall until I figure it out” is going to be a turnoff for most guys and will cause problems in the long run.
Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Men searching for a serious relationship aren’t looking for a princess.
Most guys searching for a serious relationship are looking for their equal. Not a princess who wants to be placed on a pedestal twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
Men want to be complimented too.
Do you like hearing you look nice in that outfit, or that your hair looks nice today, or that you smell good? Men like to hear those things as well. In fact, because they are not often bombarded with unsolicited compliments, they might enjoy them even more than we do. If you want to make your boyfriend feel special, send a few compliments his way.
Men view asking for help as a weakness.
Most men are raised and encouraged to be independent. Be the breadwinner. The man’s man. I know you probably hear this all the time, but it’s not a joke. It’s true. While women were encouraged to play with dolls and express their emotions, men were taught to go outside and roughhouse.
Men were told to “suck it up and be a man,” and women were taught to be open and expressive, so there’s no secret as to why it can be difficult for adult men and women to forge communication pathways.
Be patient when expecting your man to open up. If he feels accepted and comfortable, he will.
Most men are clueless about what women really want.
From a young age most men are given all types of bad advice from everyone ranging from family members to friends. Aside from the fact that it’s considered shameful for a man to seek help in order to improve his dating skills, most times he just continues down the wrong path based on the women he encounters.
Gender equality means you can ask a man out just like they can ask you out.
We’ve been set up to believe that men always have to make the first move. However, just like women can be shy, men can be shy as well. If you really want to go out with the guy you’ve been texting the last few weeks, you don’t have to wait for him to plan the first date. Gone are the days of strict traditionalism. Today, you can ask him out if you want to.
Men would rather try and solve the problem instead of hearing about it.
If you want your man to just hear you rant or be your rock of emotional support when you’re going through something, then you’ll need to let that be known and clear. Most men will instinctively want to try and solve the problem rather than ponder how it happened or figure out how to assign blame.
He doesn’t expect you to have a perfect body.
Even if you apply ten different Instagram filters and do a body-tune, men still know what you look like. The over-the-head-tipped-chin selfie isn’t disguising the fact that you might have a little extra 10lbs or 20lbs on your body.
If all your photos on social media are headshots, chances are he knows you’re insecure about your weight. It’s the same as a guy who wears hats in every pic because he is balding or bald.
You’re not fooling anyone and when you do attract a guy without showing him the full picture he may be disappointed in your face and things could get even uglier. With that being said — confidence is sexy and lingerie is overrated!
Luckily, he doesn’t expect you to have a perfect body like a celebrity, anyway. If he’s attracted to you, then he’s attracted to your small boobs or flat butt or squishy tummy, so you don’t have to worry about it!
Wrapping up.
The moral of this story is that while you may be tempted to look at men as simple, always-horny creatures, your perception is wrong. Men are just as nuanced and complex as women are, and that is something that should be celebrated, not made fun of or ignored!
